I volunteer

I've not mentioned it before, but I volunteer once a week in a Cancer Research UK store in the city I live in.

I've been doing this for a few months, I started in late October/early November (I don't remember the exact date).

I decided that I wanted to start volunteering for a few reasons...
One; I had a free day from university and no other commitments, so I thought I could fill some time doing something good.
Two; I thought it would generally be a nice thing to do.
Three; It would be good experience for working life. Although I have a job, it never hurts to gain more experience.
Although some might say I only did it for the experience of work, I can assure you that's not true.

I really enjoy volunteering there, I've met some really nice people since being there and done a lot of different jobs that I wouldn't do in my current job. As it's a charity shop, you get so many different donations, from books to clothes to home wear to DVDs to jewellery to shoes. It's really fun looking through everything to see what treasures you can find (or what you can't). My 'favourite' job to do is look through all the books, price them and put them out, because I get to see so many books I've never heard of and arrange them alphabetically (mmm, organisation).

I like to think I've learnt how to do the different jobs quite quickly, considering I only volunteer once a week I've not done bad. I would do more there, but I have work and university commitments to attend to - I'll no doubt do more in Summer. But for now, once a week is enough for me. I would love though to get to know how the 'office'-y side of the store is worked. I've learnt a little but I'd love to know more, maybe one day eh?
